MAINTENANCE & CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR OILED FLOORS

Walking on Wood suggests the following procedures for cleaning and maintaining a hard wood floor finished with oil or wax: Trip Trap Soap and Trip Trap Maintenance Oil, respectively.

TRIP TRAP SOAP (weekly)

Daily cleaning should be done using dry methods such as vacuum cleaning. Where necessary the floor can be wiped using a mop or a well-wrung out floor cloth. The floor must not receive excessive moisture. The best cleaning results are achieved using Trip Trap Soap. If you use any other cleaning agent make sure that it is pH-neutral (max pH 8). Damp cleaning is unnecessary during the first weeks after installation. However, regular cleaning prevents dirt sticking to the oiled surface.

Remove marks as soon as possible using water and Trip Trap Soap or other neutral cleaning agent. If this does not help, the marks can be removed using a green nylon pad such as Scotch-Brite. After removing the mark, if necessary, apply a small amount of oil (available from our Warehouse), before Trip Trap Maintenance Oil is applied.

Instructions for use:

  1. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
  2. For daily cleaning, pour 250ml Trip Trap soap into 10 litres of warm water and wash with a small quantity of water. It is recommended to work with two buckets, one with soap solution and one with clear water for rinsing the cloth/mop. Never leave any water on the surface.
  3. If the surface is heavily soiled, leave the soap solution on the floor for 5 minutes, and remove the dirty water from the surface. Rinse the cloth or mop in the clear water before continuing.
  4. With each wash, the surface will be more resistant to dirt and stains.
  5. Should any heavy dirt and stains remain after the soap wash, use Trip Trap Intensive Wood Cleaner.
  6. Coverage is approximately 50-80m²/ l.

TRIP TRAP MAINTENANCE OIL (every month in public places and every 12 months in private residences)

Maintenance Oil is used in connection with all oil treated surfaces. The Trip Trap Maintenance oil is used at regular intervals depending on use, but typically once a year in private residences and once a month in areas open to the public, i.e. shops, restaurants, hotels. Maintenance oil makes the floor more resistant and easier to clean. The oil maintains the beautiful structure of wood.

Instructions for use:

  1. The floor is cleaned with Intensive Wood Cleaner and left to dry for 4-8 hours. The floor must be absolutely dry.
  2. The concentrated Maintenance oil is applied with an acid proof rubber scraper, scrubber pad or cotton cloth. For large areas, a polishing machine may be used. Ensure that the maintenance oil is polished well into the floor. Polishing must continue until the wood is saturated with oil and the floor appears silky mat and all excess oil has been removed.
  3. If polishing machine has been used, the floor is ready for use immediately after application. Has the oil been applied manually, the floor should be left for four hours before use.
  4. After 24 hours the oil has hardened and before this time no water must reach the floor.
  5. Coverage is approximately 30-40m²/ l.

Cloths with oil must be burnt after use owing to the self ignition risk.
